A Generation of Visions

Gillian has been a professional artist for over 10 years using dance, drama, writing, singing and music skills to create or be creative in work.

“I wanted to show Liverpool in a positive light, as I have been born, brought up, educated and trained in Liverpool, although my work has taken me abroad and all over England, I wanted to give something back.  This is my first filming project and I have found the support and opportunities surrounding it unlimited.

The project

This project is called A Generation of Visions and is about people’s personal perceptions of Liverpool…. Gillian researched age groups across the generations from 7yrs through to 98yrs

From the research, she sectioned the information into two categories themes and locations.  From this she marked down their emotions and ‘characteristics’ to use within movements

You will see a bending and jump movement throughout the main film – This represents hard work.  You will also see within the dance sequences, untold stories from our society.  Examples below:

·        As a student – studying, their relationships with the business world

·        As a pensioner – through the war, bringing up their family with nothing

·        As an entrepreneur – singling themselves from others, helping those that are not a threat

·        As a child – The constant mimicking, absorbing knowledge and dependency on others

Arms in a strong straight line – this represent the openness that Liverpool people have, the acceptance of everything – including their faults

Arms crossed around the shoulders and head roll – This represents, welcome home, to feel safe with your family and friends, comfortable

This piece is on many levels and at a closer look you can see the relationships with the dancers in each section tell their own story of how our society engages

Gillian has been touring schools and pensioner clubs giving presentations on the film interpretations, the feedback has been excellent.

This film has been made possible from Premier Studios and Capital Culture Company.  We hope you enjoy this unique experience
